GLAURIEUS BEDLINGTONS

I got my first Bedlington Terrier in 1990, he was a rescue. I was living in Chicago attending art school when God blessed me with a little blue dog that change my life forever. Lonely in the big city, I got a job at a grooming salon where I worked after art classes. One day a rescue volunteer brought in a one-year old Bedlington Terrier that needed a bath and a home. We bonded immediately and I had to adopt him. After a weeks time, the rescue adoption was complete and we belonged to each other. Who really rescued who was a matter of opinion. I named him Lambchoppe but called him “Chopper”. We became best friends and quickly developed an unbelievable bond many dogs and their owners share.

I had Chopper for 10 wonderful years. After his passing my husband and I began our search for a Bedlington puppy. That is when we first met Sandy Miles and Foley Harper of Sandon N' Oakhill Kennels. Sandy's bitch just had a litter with one blue and tan boy. We took a leap of faith and made him ours. At 5 weeks of age Sandy sent us a picture of our new puppy. It was love at first sight. When the puppy was 9 weeks old we flew to Georgia to bring him home. We named him  Sandon N' Oakhill Leo Might Be Lion and called him Leo. Sandy and Foley quickly became dear friends and mentors. Not only did we have a handsome new puppy, we had cherished new friends. With their guidance and encouragement we decided to show Leo in Conformation. The rest, as they say, is history...
Two years after getting Leo we went back to Sandy and Foley for a little girl. We were given pick of the litter, a beautiful blue puppy we named Tara. We registered Tara as Sandon N' Oakhill TruBlu N' TaraBel because she was such a feisty little puppy and jokingly kept telling her how "terrible" she was. Terrible turned into "TaraBel" and the name stuck.

Wayne and I had been showing Leo for almost a year when we got Tara. As soon as Tara was old enough she was entered in the puppy classes. Tara was a stand-out puppy in the show ring. Many reputable Bedlington breeders told us our little girl was exceptional. They were not wrong. Tara and Leo finished their Championship on the same day in Greeley, Colorado. It was a very happy day!

As I became more involved in dog shows, I also became more involved with the Bedlington Terrier Club of America. Today, I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the BTCA, I am the Editor of the BTCA magazine (Tassels & Tales), and I write for the AKC Gazette Breed Column.

After 18 years in the breed, serving the parent club in several capacities, and learning as much as I can from my trusted mentors, it was time to take the next step and become a reputable breeder of Bedlington Terriers. In 2008, Tara whelped her first litter of Glaurieus Bedlington. It was a glorious beginning!
